RECRUITMENT – Headache or Hallelujah? Blog | February 3, 2015

In our changing market today, we have many choices where to recruit good people. Recruiting new team members should not be a hindrance on your time and resources. Here are a few simple tips:

Plan – Have a clear and concise job description which will make it easier to find the right candidate.

Post – There are several online job sites (free or fee-based). Use social media (eg: LinkedIn, Facebook) or, college and university job boards can also be a great resource!

Pre-Screen – Schedule a phone interview or Skype call. This allows you to get a better sense of the candidate’s skills, experience, personality, and their salary expectations. A Q&A can be done within a 20-minute, or less, call.

Interview – Make sure the interviewer/interviewees review the phone screen notes, resume and job description.

References & Offer – After you have agreed on a successful candidate, move quickly on references and an offer. Timing is everything when you have a star candidate. Far too often, if you don’t get back to them within a few days, they have accepted something else.

Follow Up – Once your team has an accepted offer, make sure you get back to the candidates you interviewed. A quick email is a professional way to advise that the job has been filled and thank them for their time.

Recently, an employee gave two weeks’ notice at the same time I was leaving for vacation. I contacted HRfx and provided them all the details to start the RPO process. When I returned after two weeks, I had several candidates to interview and I hired a great applicant from the short list that was given to me.
The HRfx team removed the stress off my plate and I could enjoy my vacation.
